Nonna Brovelli's Ravioli
We knew her only as Nonna Brovelli, but her family meals are still the stuff(ing) from which legends are made. |

about us
Established in 1983, Pastaworks is one of the premiere specialty food stores in the United States. Through its three retail locations Pastaworks offers one of the largest selections of Italian wines in the country (and Italy!) as well as wines from Spain and hard to find wines from small, quality oriented Northwest producers. The cheese selection is unparalleled in the Northwest and the grocery selection features the finest olive oils and vinegars available.
Pastaworks offers the best available products from the Mediterranean world (and sometimes beyond) based on the premise that eating and drinking should be pleasure as well as necessity. Pastaworks' foods and wines provide customers with the staples for a culinary journey to a part of the world where gastronomic enjoyment is part of a way of life.
It's certainly a way of life for the de Garmo family who own and operate the business. Peter who began the business in 1983 now runs the two stores with his son Kevin. Peter's wife Pat contributes her vast knowledge of cooking and Kevin's wife Kaie helps out on the marketing side of things. The youngest member of the Pastaworks family is Lola, who at the age of seven continues to show promise in the food and wine industry.
During the course of any year the de Garmo clan spreads out around the globe, from Torino to Singapore to London to New York to experience the best and most exciting foods and wines to be found.
Mississippi Pastaworks
Is now open! We are happy to announce the opening of our third location inside the LEED certified Mississippi Avenue Lofts in the North Portland Boise-Eliot neighborhood. N. Mississippi Avenue is the heart of a diverse and historic community and we are pleased to join the ranks of other local businesses that call the area home. Look for news about the official "Grand Opening" scheduled for mid-March, 2009. Until then, please stop in say hello (and you can always purchase something). Pastaworks on Mississippi, 4212 N. Mississippi. 503 445-1303.
Evoe
Evoe is not the shriek of Rachel Ray. It is the homage/invocation to Bacchus. It’s the name of Pastaworks on Hawthorne’s new eating in facility and tasting room, and it draws it name from Peter’s only winemaking experience in the late 1960’s.
Evoe fills the space of the original Pastaworks and opens into the store as well as the street. It's open from noon to early evening five days a week (Wednesday through Sunday). The plan is that Evoe will host thematic dinners, tastings, demos and/or readings in the evenings and on closed days.
Evoe’s menu of salads, charcuterie, soups, sandwiches, fried items are crafted by Kevin Gibson, who also prepares and serves the dishes (with a little help). There are wines by the glass, beers too, and customers can purchase wines and beers off the store’s retail shelves (with an incredibly modest “corkage” fee to cover glasses, etc). Evoe has been well received by customers and press alike, and we hope you be able to stop in soon.
